Post 29:
I sit on the local bike collective board. And last week I took on the chair position for the board of "The Bridges Ride". It will be a family focus bike path ride that has a 60ish, 40ish and 30ish mile options. Being on the re-birth of the ride post CoVid social distancing is interesting. Some people still have reservations about meeting in person. And that is okay. I know where my level of risk is and I am able to respect those peoples wishes and meet virtually to accomindate their concerns and still have them particpate in a meaningful matter.
Back to the ride, right now the plan is the Bike Collective leads the ride and we will take on other board memebers for the ride as it gains momentum and speed. I know we picked up two more board memebers this week from Cedar Valley Trail Partnership. They will provide the insurance and other things for a sucessful ride.
There is talk of an actual band playing at the final formal stop (Not the finish) of the ride. There is talk of breakfast stop, a coffee and doughnut stop. Lots of talk going on as group of people spit ball ideas out. It will be interesting to see how this ride takes shape for May 14th 2022. At this time it is a FREE ride. Yes, we will mostly have a donation jar out to help the Cedar Valley Trail Partnership. But Dave, is it not a Cedar Valley Bike Collective event? Yes it is, but other than this blog post our concept is to be the muscle on this event and put other bike organizations in the fore front. Please remeber we have the Great American Rail Trail coming through town. So in my head, I want that to happen in my life time, so this is my selfish way of pushing money to that.
Stay tuned for more as this develops.
Cheers and Godspeed.
Yes, we are starting a Waterloo Christmas ride. It is not intended to do anything other than be a reason to ride a bike a short distance and be around others. The length is a whopping 3 miles. To sum that is more miles than they have rode for the previous 10 years. That is the person I want there. If you want to bang out miles and demonstrate your cycling skills, there is a ride in Cedar Falls on the 5th of December for that. I believe they are meeting up 6pm and leaving from Overmen Park. When: 29 November 2023 @ 6pm Where: Kingsley Elementary School parking lot. On the street parking is fine, look for No Parking sides. Route: Link Here on Strava App Ending: Lighthouse Lounge, bring a bike lock. Parking is extremely limited, Also it is a Cash Only Bar. See what happens this year, and may be this grows, who knows. I started the Cedar Fall...
