Mark's HoF Ride Post #3

Cliff Notes:

- June 19th:

- River Side Park, Vinton, Iowa

- Time 9am start

- Mile 24 C-Stop Center Point

- Expect a group ride time of 6.5hrs total.

- Post Ride Social: Tootsie Ice cream/Hamburger stand on the NW side of Vinton.

- Group Size Unknown: At Least 3 of us.  But I have heard rumblings, so car pool if possible.  I am speculating about 30 -50 people.

- No facebook post or event to follow about this.  If there is, it is someone else celebrating Mark and that is cool too and I recommend doing both rides.

Today's Post:

After talking with Mark (Guitar Ted) it is apparent to me I am re-configuring the route to be more like the original route.  With that said I took some liberties to keep it a large group capable route.  Two areas of awareness is the roll out out of Vinton north, and the roll into Center Point to a Caseys at Mile 24.  Mile 24 will be the last C-stop on the route, so top off.  Plan on a 45 minute pause for people to facilitate the facilities and re-load.  It is a Truck Stop with a Mickey D's and a Subway.

Right Now the Route has 2 B-Roads in it.  If it rains a lot, the route allows for a bypass on the fly.
Here is the link to the route:

We will be concluding our ride on the Old Creamery Trail which is a tip of the hat to a Trans Iowa that utilized it.

If you are expecting a big to do, you will be disappointed.  This is literally two dudes going on a ride and hope others tag along.  Maybe Mark feels like a speech, maybe he does not.  I recommend pedaling along side of him and chatting.

One last thing, there will be a Cemetery stop, and no it is not some glorious cemetery, it is simple and cool.  Worn down limestone tombstones and a few Cedars spaced out.  It is a real early settlement type of place.  That will be about mile 45ish.

If you need to bail out.  I recommend doing so around mile 38.2 and keep pedaling along 60th to a left on 27th then a right on 61st.  That will take you Vinton in less than 5 miles.

Cheers and Godspeed

The Dave Roll Waterloo Christmas Light Ride on 29th of November

Yes, we are starting a Waterloo Christmas ride. It is not intended to do anything other than be a reason to ride a bike a short distance and be around others. The length is a whopping 3 miles. To sum that is more miles than they have rode for the previous 10 years. That is the person I want there. If you want to bang out miles and demonstrate your cycling skills, there is a ride in Cedar Falls on the 5th of December for that.  I believe they are meeting up 6pm and leaving from Overmen Park.       When: 29 November 2023 @ 6pm      Where: Kingsley Elementary School parking lot.  On the street parking is fine, look for No Parking sides.      Route: Link Here on Strava App      Ending: Lighthouse Lounge, bring a bike lock.   Parking is extremely limited, Also it is a Cash Only Bar.      See what happens this year, and may be this grows, who knows.  I started the Cedar Fall...

#BikeIowaCity with Core4

P ost 36:     Iowa cycling will be getting a new  race.  Reading the early information teases, I can tell you three things.  The race is named Core 4 , it will be on the 27th of August, 2022, and it will be inspired by the  Rule of Three race.         I am excited by being able to go to a race that has a distance of 100miles, and riding tarmac, gravel and single track from Sugar Bottom to Coralville.  I am not sure where the start and finish line, but I know the general area it will be in.       For now race fans, I would say plan on a 40mm or wider tire.  I am guessing it will be a 100 mile-ish course with some of the charting I have seen.  For now as information comes out, I would encourage following they Instagram account Core4.bike or follow the Hashtags #core4gravel and #bikeiowacity.  Cheers and Godspeed Dave
Post #3:  Silly things cyclist say.  Tammy and I went for a gravel ride.  While on the ride, Tammy made a comment about how he was "Overbiked" in contrast to my bike.  The "Overbiked" and "Underbiked" comments and usage have always made me look at people weirdly.  Tammy's usage was fine, he was commenting on his own equipment and making a comparison to himself.  Often times when I hear those phrases it is another person, providing their opinion to another to what they should ride.  I find that to be rude and absurd.  The person making the comment is making a lot of assumptions.  And really the only person whom it matters to is the rider.  Let people ride what they want to an extent.  I can see reasons for regulating bikes styles and genres if you are Pro.  But for the remainder of us recreational riders, who really cares?   Making those comments often turn other people off, and give even more credence as to why cyclin...
